Privacy Policy

The short version: Able runs entirely in your browser. We do not collect, store, or transmit any of your data. Your audit results, license key, and browsing activity never leave your machine.

What Able Does

Able is a Chrome extension that audits webpages for ADA and WCAG 2.1 accessibility compliance. When you run an audit, the extension injects a content script into the active tab, runs the axe-core accessibility engine on the page's DOM, and displays the results in a side panel.

Data Collection

Able does not collect any personal data. Specifically:

No analytics or tracking. We do not use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or any other tracking service.
No data transmission. Audit results are generated and displayed locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to any external server.
No account required. You do not need to create an account or provide an email address to use Able.
No cookies. Able does not set or read any cookies.

Data Stored Locally

Able uses Chrome's local storage API (chrome.storage.local) to store the following on your device only:

License status. Whether you are on the free or Pro tier, and your license key if activated.
Audit count. The number of audits you've run this month (used to enforce the free tier's monthly limit).

This data is stored exclusively on your computer and is never transmitted anywhere. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension.

Permissions Explained

Able requests the following Chrome permissions:

activeTab: Allows Able to access the current tab when you click the extension icon, so it can run an accessibility audit on the page you're viewing.
sidePanel: Displays audit results in Chrome's side panel interface.
scripting: Required to inject the axe-core accessibility engine into the page being audited.
storage: Stores your license status and audit count locally on your device.
host_permissions (all URLs): Allows Able to audit any webpage you visit. The extension only activates when you explicitly click the audit button — it does not run automatically or in the background.

Third-Party Services

Able does not communicate with any third-party services during normal operation. The extension runs entirely offline after installation.

The only exception: if you purchase a Pro license, the payment is processed by Stripe on the Able website (not within the extension). Stripe's privacy policy governs that transaction.

Children's Privacy

Able is a professional design tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
